How long will my download take?
Download time depends on two factors: file size and your internet speed. Our calculator accounts for the important difference between Megabit (Mbit) and Megabyte (MB), which often causes confusion. Internet providers usually advertise speeds in Mbit/s, while file sizes are shown in MB or GB.
ISPs advertise "up to" speeds. Real speed depends on network congestion, WiFi quality, server capacity, and distance. Measure your current speed with a speed test.
Mbit (Megabit) is a unit for data transfer, MB (Megabyte) is for file sizes. 1 Byte = 8 Bits, so 100 Mbit/s = 12.5 MB/s. ISPs use Mbit because the number sounds bigger.
Use Ethernet instead of WiFi, close other downloads, choose closer download servers, update router firmware, or upgrade your internet plan.
Download managers show current speed, which fluctuates. Our calculator computes the ideal case with constant speed. Real time is usually slightly longer.
💡 Tip: Schedule large downloads at night when the network is less congested. Many routers have scheduling features for planned downloads.
Actual speed may vary. This calculator assumes a constant, maximum speed.
